January 26, 2010

The January 26, 2010 meeting was an occasion to celebrate the Club's 88th Birthday! To mark the occasion we sang two United States anthems and Oh Canada. We were also graced by a visit from Lt. Governor Ron Curry and a full interclub from the Abbottsford Kiwanis Club.

Jess Reeves from Computers for Kids was also a guest at the meeting and he presented a brief update on his organization that has now provided over 1,000 free computers to families that could not otherwise afford to own a computer.

Announcements

A special Bingo award consisting of night goggles and flashlight was presented by Dick Z and Ralph G. to Larry West for his great help at Tuesday night Bingo even though he has difficulty locating and picking up our outside signs advertising the Bingo evening.

There will be a special Fundraising Committee meeting on Saturday, February 14th. The meeting will be held at the Gateway Center starting at 9:00 a.m. Some of the group would also like to meet for breakfast at 8:00 a.m. at a yet to be determined restaurant. Primary topics of discussion will be Bingo and a new mushroom compost fundraiser.

Emily C celebrated another birthday this week!

Many happy dollars were conveyed regarding the Club's birthday, the visitors from Abbottsford and many other fun tidbits from Club members.

Drawing

John H had his ticket picked but was unable to choose the money winning card.

Program

The program consisted mostly of Club members' stories and memories from their years of involvement with the Club. We heard some of the Club's history from our historian Dick S including the fact that he joined the Club in 1974. We learned that Nancy L-K joined the Club in 1987 and was only the second woman to do so. She went on to become the first woman president of the Club and the first woman Lt. Governor in the District. We also enjoyed other stories, especially from the long standing members in the Club.
