Bellingham Kiwanis Soundings

January 5 & January 12, 2010

January 5

The Bellingham Kiwanis Club started 2010 on the road as the Country Club food service was closed the first two weeks of the New Year for maintenance work. Tuesday, January 5th the Club traveled to Ferndale for a joint meeting with the Ferndale Kiwanis Club. It may have been Ferndale's home turf but a strong showing of 25 Bellingham members put us in the majority. However, there is no mistaking that the smaller Ferndale Kiwanis Club are much better signers as we never sounded so good, due mightily to their help. The Ferndale members were pleased with the large turnout and it reminded the older members of the good old days when larger crowds at the meetings were the norm. Bellingham's own Ralph Gardener won the Ferndale Club drawing and went home with homemade preserves and pickles.

We were fortunate enough to be visiting Ferndale on the Student of the Month presentation. The senior from Ferndale High School was the guest speaker and quite an impressive young lady. It was very nice to share the event with the Ferndale Club.

January 12

The January 12th meeting was at the Bellingham Boys & Girls Club hosted by fellow member Rhonda S. The B&GC served a yummy and plentiful spaghetti lunch. The program was presented by various employees of the B&GC explaining all that they do. We are truly blessed to have such an outstanding organization at service in our community.

Birthdays!

The Club celebrated three birthdays on the 12th. Starting by age (I think), Dr. Bob requested all ladies over 25 years old to sign. The pitch (is that correct?) was a little too high but the great thing was we actually had a couple of ladies in the crowd too young to sign. That is a good sign for the Club! Next was John Howe and he requested that all the ladies sign to him. The final birthday was John Wilson and he took pity on everyone and paid to have nobody sign to him! This was a brilliant move by the youngest of the three.
