Bellingham Kiwanis SoundingsDecember 15,2009(10 days till Christmas)Our meeting started in great joy but rather questionable singing tune with America, the pledge and Oh Canada. Barb Audley helped and tried desperately to bring some quality to our efforts but alas from the back row where I sat it was pretty sad (my voice included). LYLA – where are you we need you desperately!!! With the singing thankfully over a short prayer was said by Dick Zagelow (your writer). Nice prayer but I heard whispers of the same old question – will the big guy listen when the prayer comes from the likes of Zagelow? We moved on to announcements and that is when I suddenly realized that I was supposed to be taking notes – whoops. Nancy Larson has done one heck of a job as our public affairs reporter even if she never knew what was going on with Tiger Woods. She had a great interview on KGMI about our efforts with the Agape House playground. Happy Dollars$$$By the time Happy Dollars started my note taking was going at high steam!!! It is of course primarily unreadable now.Barb Audley said something about a bus. Bob Gregory was hunting turkeys or drinking wild turkey, maybe both? John Howe’s wife had let him out of the house with $3.00 and he gave them all as happy dollars as a Stanford football fan, a forty Niners foot ball fan and a Boeing Dream liner fan. Our president Jim Carney just doesn’t get it. Why would anyone give a happy dollar for their daughters 14th birthday? Doesn’t he understand the fourteen year olds turn into 15, 16 and god forbid 17 year olds? John Wilson gave a happy dollar because our local football hero Jake Locker will be spending his senior year at the University of Washington. Our visitor Joan gave a happy dollar for the great lunch and just for visiting our club. Chelsea the Montana outdoors mean and mighty woman thought we were all wimps when it came to snow until she slid her car over a parking divider. She is happy to be going back to Montana for the holidays where they have no parking dividers. Drawing:IT’S A SCAM!!!! We know it now since Greg once again won the $650+ pot when he came up with the joker. I guess it pays to buy $5.00 worth of tickets on a regular basis. Program:Ralph introduced Kung Yin who spoke on Egyptian Solar boats made in Egypt for the pharos 4,500 years ago (the only one to remember that was John Eagan and even he wasn’t sure if he remembered). It was a very interesting subject. The meeting ended and we headed off in different directions better for what we had learned, better for meeting with friends and much better for embracing the Kiwanis experience. Merry Christmas, Kiwanians! We will celebrate the season this Tuesday at our regular meeting. Come join the fun and fellowship! Please note on your calendars the following meeting schedule for the next month:
