President Jim Carney started the meeting right at 12:00 PM. Lyla Tjoelker led us in God bless American. Emily Citroen asked everyone to bow our heads in prayerful respect to our Veteran's followed by her blessing.

Vern Hagen presents a certificate to John Wilson recognizing John's support of the Veterans returning to civil employment after serving in the Armed Forces.

GUESTS:

President Jim introduced Andrea Merrill and her classmate Adrianna from the Sehome Key Club. Rhonda Shaffer was quest for the last time before joining our club. Danielle Paskewitz was Jim Carney's guest and Ben McKay was introduced by Bruce Jorgensen.

Vaughn Hagen noted his Dad, Vern Hagen's Department of Defense organization paid for our lunches today. Vern was to present today's program, more later.

NEW MEMBER:

Rhonda Shaffer was inducted by Nancy Larsen, President Jim and her sponsor, Bruce Jorgensen. Rhonda received her membership pin, a temporary name badge and a framed membership certificate. Welcome Rhonda!!

Rhonda will be meeting everyone l by asking members to sign her apron in the next 3 weeks.

HAPPY DOLLARS:

Rhonda Schaffer gave a Happy $ to advise the Boys & Girls Club had more kids attending after the Whatcom Middle School fire last week.

Greg Wegrich had a happy funny- buck story about a friend, a little wine, etc.

John Howe was Happy- a- buck to see Rhonda Shaffer inducted as a member.

Jan Armstrong had a sad dollar for the loss of a local soldier losing his life in Afghanistan.

Rich Emerson had a "reassure" $ for John Eagon who said "if I had known the lunch was free I would have brought my wife"

John Wilson had 2 dollars. With the flu threat, John was happy to pay for not shaking Bruce's hand.

DRAWING:

John Eagon drew the Queen of Spades for a $5 payout. Yes, John, we noted that you gave the $5 back to the Admin. Fund!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Rich Emerson asked all Board members to stay for a brief meeting at 1:00 PM

John Howe reviewed the Interclub schedule. Kulshan Club - 7:15 AM on Thursday, 11-12-09, Country Club.

Community Service Committee Jan Armstrong advised the next meeting is on 11-12-2009, 12:00 PM at the Oriento Restaurant. Jan also asked members to sign the clipboard for the upcoming Baby Food Drive at Hagen's Grocery.

Alyson Batchelder-Bestle passed around a sympathy card for the loss of John Wilson's father.

Mike Yeend announced the next meeting for the

Youth Services Committee

will be 12:00 PM, Avenue Bread, Thursday noon, 11-12-09

Ralph Gardner announced the next Fund Raising meeting will be at 12:00 PM, Thursday, 11-19-2009 at Zings Panda Palace, Sunset Square.

Rhonda Shaffer advised that the Boys and Girls Club is holding their annual fundraiser "Breakfast of Champions" at 7:15 to 9:00 AM on Thursday 11-12-2009.

President Jim turned the meeting over to Dick Zagelow who introduced Andrea Merrill, President of the Sehome Key Club. The Key Club's holiday service project is to raise funds in support of a local mother and 3 children who are in need of clothing, food and necessities. Dick started the bidding for baked goods by paying $20 for a cupcake for everyone. Members paid over $300 to take home baked goods.

PROGRAM:

Vaughn Hagen introduced his dad, Vern, an Ombudsman for the National Guard and Reservists. Vern said "greetings from the Department of Defense". His organization assists members of the armed forces returning to civilian life, educating employers and recognizing employers who support returning veterans. The Guard and Reserves represent over 50% of the military war effort at present.

John Wilson, owner of Wilson's Furniture was recognized for his support and presented a plaque for his office.

Lyla Tjoelker gave a brief description of Veterans Day and thanked all veterans who have served our country. The following members were recognized:

Army:Doug Bestle, Al Dale, Bob Gregory, John Howe, Dick Zagelow.
World War II Decorated Veterans are Bob Dawes, Ken Nuckolls, and Dick Schmitt
Navy: John Wilson, Bill Audley (guest)
Air Force:Ralph Gardner, Bob Olson
