Bellingham Kiwanis SoundingsJanuary 15, 2008Dick opened the meeting - Lyla lead us in America and Ralph gave the invocation. Announcements and ReportsTHEATRE NIGHTAnita thanked the group for already dropping off 40 auction items. If you have more items, drop them off at Vaughn's office or at Ralph's. Anita needs volunteers to forgo watching the play and spend the time and set up for folks paying for their items. Elizabeth needs finger food - crackers, cheese, any munchies, desert items welcomed. For folks bring food, plan on 3pm. Elizabeth also need volunteers to move tables, help Lyla receive tickets, work as a greeter, and for the clean up crew. Bob McIsaac reported that ticket sales appeared to be going well. If you have tickets you cannot sell, please turn them in because others have called in looking for more tickets. Ralph reported that Ted Dewitt probably would not be supplying manure for this years auction. Anyone want to touch this? More AnnoucementsDick Z asked if anyone knew how Will was doing. He has missed a couple of meetings. Dick went on to make impromptu speech - I could not get any of it down. Mike Y finally raised his hand and announced that Youth Service Committee was meeting at Cascade Pizza, noon Thursday. (He noted that some had to shut Dick Up.) Dick Z, however, promptly resumed by thanking Dick Schmitt for getting this years roster completed and distributed and then introduce Rich E to give the board report. Rich E reported that Dick Z was starting slow - then tapering off. The next board meeting will be February 23rd at Round Table Pizza. Business Items: BirthdaysNancy Crawford put up $2 for Dick Z to sing. Many noted that he should keep his day job, but it really was not too bad. Maybe with a little practice…… Russ Weston asked the entire group sing except Dick .DrawingJan Armstrong won the drawing - but not the prize. Happy DollarsVaughn had a question dollar, noting that Nancy C was the head auditor and was visiting for the first time in a while. Anita had a happy 20 for Andy. Andy's surgery went very well. Ralph was fined for suggesting that hospital food was better than home food. (I think Ralph may need some help). Jim was happy to survive full day of referring on Orcas Island. He had lots of fun. Barb received a long email from Rachel who is doing well even with the political uncertainty in Kenya. Let Barb know if you would like her to email you the letter. Lyla was happy to see a sunshiny day. Jan was happy because yesterday, which started out as just an ordinary and probably mundane day, was substantially improved by a series of "Bingo Emails", the highlight being the discussions about Joyce's Bunko. Al was happy to be back from his vacation. Russ was happy to hear that Ralph and Joyce were talking again. (Editor note: Both Ralph and Joyce showed up to play Bingo on the Green Team Night (as participants not workers.) I noted that both won! ProgramVaughn Hagen introduced Jack Peter, current president of the Whatcom Genealogical Society. The Whatcom Genealogical Society was founded in 1969 with the mission of promoting genealogical and family history research, and to preserving local historical records needed to the search. The membership is open to all interested individuals and groups. Jack noted that the Internet is a gift to folks researching their past. There are many sites that have tremendous amount of information. Some of the sites, such as http://www.ancestry.com are commercial sites, others, such as http://www.archives.gov/geneology are free. If you are interested in more information, including a listing of many internet sites, go to http://members.aol.com/whatcom59/ or call Jack Peter @ 360-671-1997 or Rick Read @ 360-733-1227. |
