Bellingham Kiwanis Soundings

December 18, 2007

President Dick returned… Nancy Larsen gave the invocation and we all sang in excellent voice.

GUESTS:

One visitor from the Lynden Noon Club plus our "to be inducted" Rob Toyer. Also, a round of applause for Ian Willey on his return from a long absence.

SMILE TRAIN:

Nancy reported we raised enough (with the help of George's family) to provide twelve smiles…..over $3,000.00……congratulations, way to go!

REPORTS:

Bingo committee approved additional three months. Things are picking up with the crowds increasing (56 last count). Netted over $250.00 last week. Don't forget, no bingo on Christmas. However, expect a big crowd on New Years day.

Ham Hayes volunteered to head up the Salvation Army walk and knock.

DRAWING:

MacIsaac drew the winning ticket but not the winning card. Pot keeps climbing.

HAPPY DOLLARS$$

Kay Faulkner's parents chose December 20th to bring her into the world. We made another $1.00 for the ad. fund.

John Wilson named assistant treasurer for bingo.

Nancy happy that tooth surgery went off better than expected.

Bruce or Ham reported seeing new member Rob (in his marine togs) pushing "Toys for Tots" Great program.

Another guests arrived. No, not Lt. Gov Bill….This was Russ Weston's sister, Bernadene.

Bill Langstraat announcing he played the part of banker at bingo for the past two weeks. Sounds like he is pushing for a permanent position.

Jim Carney…just happy to be here. John W. trying to "butter up" Ref. Carney for future brownie points…(John, he calls them like he sees them)

PROGRAM:

Lance Calloway, director for Whatcom Sports Commission, presented a very comprehensive program/slide show on exactly what the Sports Commission does. Really impressive, over 4,400 kids registered and serving between 10,000 and 12,000 people. Their program generated over $4,700,000 toward the economics of our community. Just take a drive by the Sports Plex operation at Smith Rd and Northwest Ave. anytime during the summer and you will be amazed…same with the ice arena. What a deal for the youth and handicapped in Whatcom County…

Don't forget….NO MEETING ON NEW YEARS DAY. See you January 8, 2008…Program TBA
