Bellingham Kiwanis SoundingsDecember 11, 2007We dug deep in the barrel and came up with #2 VP Jim Carney to run the meeting. The Pres. was cavorting in Spokane while our #1 VP, Rich Emerson was off telling the mayor of Ferndale a thing or two. Al Dale took over Rich's invocation duties preceded by Lyla with the songs. GUESTS:Barbara had Lt. Gov. Bill with her. New incoming member, Rob Toyer waiting for induction day after approval by the Board. Adam Roberts came as a guest. COMMITTEE REPORTS:Elizabeth passing out tickets for Theater night coming up January 24, 2008. Cost $15.00 each. Ferndale interclub Christmas meeting Jan. 18th, MSA Abbotsford, Jan. 14th. House committee back to normal with Will's return. SMILE TRAIN:Nancy gave a report on the status of the donations to "The Smile Train." Many large donations came in last week. The "bucket" was passed around during the meeting so others could contribute. HAPPY DOLLARS:New member Antje Wortman worked her first night as banker at the bingo game. Sounds like a keeper. Bruce read a letter of thanks from Jeff Reeves for our donation toward his computer for kids program. Vaughn, sitting next to me, thanked Jim Carney for something (the noise from the other room was horrible. So, I didn't get what Vaughn was saying) kidding, kidding. John Wilson sad and happy. Took him over one hour driving between Fairhaven and Lake Samish. Happy, his team won two games in Anacortes. Alyson thanked Al Dale for the invocation on short notice (Emerson will pay….) Al, looking dapper in a illegal sweater. Bill (Lt. Gov, that is) smart enough to buy "ice tires" before the snow came. Elizabeth trying to top Ralph's joke last week. Punch line, "enjoy what you got, you will be paying for it all year."PROGRAM:Christine Destry, Director of Organizational Advancement for Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County gave a good description of the goals and projects of their club. "Mission Statement:" To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible & caring citizens. The club was formed in Bellingham in 1946. For years, the club leaders were members of the Bellingham Kiwanis. Also, we used their building to host Halloween parties for all children on the eve of All Saints Day. Great parties and a ton of fun… NEXT WEEKS PROGRAM:Lance Calloway, Executive Director of Whatcom Sports Commission. Don't forget, we are back in the original location at BG&CC. MINI-BOARD MEETING:"Meeting was closed to bring forth an item to the membership." Board of Directors approved extending the "Bingo games" for another three months namely January, February and March. There will be games on New Years eve but not on Christmas Eve. Vote presented to membership and passed. STOCK REPORT:Helium was up, feathers were down.....Paper was stationary. Pencils lost a few points.....Elevators rose, while escalators continued their slow decline....Diapers remained unchanged....Scott tissue touched a new bottom...Keep posted for further reports..... |
