Bellingham Kiwanis SoundingsOctober 16, 2007President Dick Z opened the meeting with America, the Canadian Anthem and The Pledge. Dick also provided the inspirational thought for the day. Guests:Bill Audley, current Lt. Gov and official club guest, was in attendance. Prez Dick Z announced a board meeting for tomorrow at Elani's Restaurant. Committee Reports and Announcements:Bingo at the Elks-Ralph is day captain this week (taking over for Doug Davidson) Community Service-Soles for Souls, shoe drive-bring your "gently used" clean shoes (tied together please) so we can donate them to those in need-Tuesday, Oct 23, is the last day for this drive YCPO-Meeting Monday, noon, Oct 22, at Cascade Pizza YCPO-Lyla thanked those who participated in the very successful baby food drive. Bruce J, Jan A, Elizabeth B, Alyson BB, Emily C, Russ W, many Key Clubbers, and, of course, Lyla Fund Raising-Anita announced the Theatre Night silent auction and play will be January 24. The play will be "Communicating Doors" a comedy with some suspense, using time travel to alter events that have already come to pass. Dick S is getting our roster ready for a new year. Perfect Attendance Pins-Congratulations to those who received their perfect attendance pins; 2 yrs-Rich E, 4 yrs-Bruce J, 5 yrs-John W, 7 yrs-Barbara A, 8 yrs-Alyson BB, Ralph G, 9 yrs-Jan A, Emily C, 13 yrs-Vaughn H, Elizabeth B, Anita J, and 19 yrs---Well, this will person wasn't in attendance so he/she will receive it next week. Happy Bucks $Elizabeth B-Enjoyed the Baby Food drive and all of the active and well behaved Key Clubbers who helped Al Dale-Happy to be going to Albuquerque to visit relatives and glad he got a great deal on the air fare. Lyla T-Also happy for the success of the food drive and the rehearsals for the high school musical is going so well. Rich E-Happy to see Anita back and glad she and Elizabeth are heading the Theater Night fund raiser (and some snide reference to the "Smurfs") Alyson-Happy for Doug's High School reunion but not so happy for all the trouble at home and at work while trying to enjoy the reunion. Jan A-Also happy for the food drive and key club participation. Bill A-Happy he arrived at the meeting ahead of his wife, for once. Birthdays-Jeri Bungard had us all sing to her. Ticket Drawing -Elizabeth B won but couldn't find the Joker. The pot is up to $55 (000), give or take a few zeros, but must be present to win! ! Program:Skip Lewis, Public Affairs Officer for the Coast Guard Auxiliary, gave us some insight into the important work these volunteers do in assisting the Coast Guard with their duties. They are mostly retired military and also some civilians, who use their own boats. They conduct Safety Patrols, assist with Search and Rescue, provide additional security and conduct training classes.
